Five Holiday Traditions We Love To Celebrate On The Farm
‘Tis the season to spread joy, merriment, and celebrate holiday traditions that we love. Traditions build strong bonds between generations of family, they are a way to pass down values, morals, and to teach us about life! At The Horse Shoe Farm, we value family. Our business is family owned and operated. We LOVE hosting family groups and reunions. Most everything we do at the farm is centered around family, the traditions we share as a unit. The holidays are like a family reunion, so why not bring your aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and more to The Horse Shoe Farm? We’d love to be your home away from home and create a new holiday tradition with you!
In true holiday spirit, we thought we’d share with you some of our favorite ways to gather as a family and celebrate the season!
Hot Cocoa and S’mores Night By The Fire Pit
There’s nothing more delightful than a cup of Cocoa and sweet, melted, S’mores! When it’s cold outside, this combination of warm sweet treats really hits the spot! The fire pit at The Horse Shoe Farm is a favorite spot for our family and those who stay with us, to share stories and enjoy the warmth. Gathering by the fire is a great way to pass down tales from our past to the younger generations. Or even to learn something new about someone in your family or group of friends. During the holidays, it can be an especially fun way to re-tell famous stories like A Christmas Carol. Stay with us at The Magnolia Manor and you’ll have the fire pit right in your front yard! The Magnolia Manor is the largest house on our property and perfect for large family groups, as it sleeps up to 14 people.
The Horse Shoe Farm Christmas Potluck
Every year, on Christmas day, we invite our friends, family, and neighbors to celebrate with a big potluck! Folks from near and far bring food and presents and we spend the day enjoying the company. Everyone contributes to the cooking- it’s a real collaborative effort, just as it should be. Anyone who stays with us during the holidays is invited to join us in The Silo Cookhouse for the festive day. We also offer the opportunity to hire a private chef or bring in catering for family events.
Lighting The Menorah
Our family, The Turchin’s, celebrate Channukah at The Horse Shoe Farm! One of our favorite traditions is lighting the Menorah. The glow of the candles, the smiles on the kid’s faces when they open their gifts, there’s much to love about this holiday tradition. We celebrate Hanukkah, also known as The Festival of Lights, by lighting the candles each night and cooking up our favorite fried treats, like latkes. Holiday Horseback Riding
Not only do we offer horse stables for boarding at The Horse Shoe Farm, but we are also conveniently located, a short 30-minutes away from the Tyron International Equestrian Center. This makes our farm the ultimate destination for horse lovers! We offer luxury boarding for guests who bring their horses to the farm. So not only will you be staying in a luxury vacation home, your horses will too! We also have over 50 acres of pastures for riding and an outdoor fenced riding area. There are plenty of opportunities for guests to bring their horses to the farm, and take them out for a ride while staying with us. We love going for a ride during the holidays and connecting with the stunning nature of the Blue Ridge Mountains, taking in the crisp air, and making memories.
Snap A Family Pic
The holidays might be the only time of the year where you get everyone in the family into one photo! Capturing the moment with your loved ones is a classic tradition, around this time of year. A photo gives you the chance to look back and see how much the kids have grown over the years and to look fondly upon those who are no longer with us. The Horse Shoe Farm provides an ideal setting to snap a shot (or two or three) of your family. With the mountains as your backdrop and several charming homes and elegant venue spaces, there are plenty of photo ops for families. Many of our homes have large, picture-perfect fireplaces for family holiday photos. We also have a picturesque covered bridge and acres of stunning land for outdoor photo opportunities. Need a photographer? We’ll help bring in a local professional to ensure you get all the shots you desire.
Volunteer or Give Back
As fortunate as we are to have this beautiful property, our loved ones to surround us, and food in our bellies, we know that many folks don’t have shelter or food. Giving back during the holidays is one of the most important traditions we can pass on as a family. Volunteering and giving to those in need is a way to share the value of charity and kindness. Whether it’s donating gifts and food to children in need or serving at a soup kitchen, the magic of the season is in lending a helping hand. In Hendersonville, there are plenty of ways to volunteer and give back . Contact us and we can help you find a place to volunteer in the Hendersonville or Asheville area.
