THE HORSE SHOE FARM – GENERAL MANAGER

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the resort property, including but not limited to: Front office/reservations, guest experience & relations, food & beverage, and property management/maintenance. This role embraces the property’s vision and service culture promoting unity and teamwork amongst all employees, and cultivates a supportive and productive relationship with internal and external partners.

The General Manager shall strive to provide exceptional service to both internal and external guests at all times. S/he will be responsible for exemplifying The Horse Shoe Farm culture as well as promoting The Horse Shoe Farm as both the destination and employer of choice!

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Solicit, hire, train, and manage a defined team of employees in the following departments: Housekeeping, maintenance, guest experience, marketing
    • Housekeeping Department
      • Oversee and provide direction for the daily routine of housekeeping staff
      • Coordinate cleaning schedule with Steward, as required
      • Make regularly scheduled quality checks & provide feedback for improvement
        • Provide detailed training and oversight as required
      • Coordinate with outside vendors as needed for special event clean-up
      • Schedule and oversee laundry service implementation
      • Maintain an active inventory of all required cleaning supplies & sundries in coordination with housekeepers
        • Complete purchase order requests, as needed
      • Maintain an up-to-date count of all linen pars at all times
        • Complete purchase order requests, as needed
    • Maintenance Department
      • Maintain a high visual appearance of the property at all times
        • Schedule and manage the execution of all maintenance work orders
          • Maintain reporting via CMMS software
        • Regularly inspect the grounds via daily “drive-throughs”
          • Remedy any deficiencies as required
      • Conduct regularly scheduled inspections of each home/building with the goal of eliminating deferred maintenance; complete tasks or refer to maintenance staff
        • Light bulbs, painting touch-up, pressure washing, furniture, etc.
      • Prepare and oversee the execution of daily, weekly, and seasonal preventative maintenance checklists
      • Oversee the use and maintenance of all farm tools and equipment
        • Schedule/perform routine maintenance as required
        • Regularly check fuel levels on all equipment and replenish as necessary
      • Develop and maintain an active and reliable list of specialty subcontractors
        • Categories include but not limited to: electricians, plumbers, etc.
      • Work with Steward to identify long-term/capital improvement projects
        • Develop timelines & budgets as necessary
        • Obtain bids for work to be completed as necessary
        • Oversee and manage the completion of ordered work
        • Provide support as necessary for the completion of each task
    • Guest Experience Department
      • Assist Steward and senior management in developing special/limited offerings & promotions
      • Provide support to the Guest Experience Manager to execute on-site programs and activities
      • Provide support to the Events Sales Manager and oversee the execution of all events on property
        • Attend all on-site events or appoint a proxy when unable to attend 
        • Assist in coordinating vendors for deliveries and pick-ups
        • Help develop and maintain an active and reliable list of vendors
          • Categories include but not limited to: event rentals, florists, toilets, parking, etc.
      • Serve as the primary on-site property representative for overnight guests
        • Coordinate guest check-ins with Guest Experience Manager
        • Develop and implement a system to field and respond to after-hours (emergency) calls from guests on property
      • Assist in responding to/processing new reservations, including after-hours calls as required
      • Monitor and respond to guest feedback, as required
  • Work with Steward and senior management to analyze and review reports to include:
    • Operating costs, budgets and forecasts
    • P&L statements
  • Ensure the property is operated safely and securely according to property and company standards
  • Effectively represent the property at local community, regional, and industry events
  • Achieve high levels of customer satisfaction from property guests and colleagues

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable years of experience in the hospitality/resort industry
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written and the ability to work well with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing
  • Ability to present clear, concise and meaningful information to owners, guests, managers and employees
  • Ability to coach and mentor new employees and team members
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and understand financial data.
  • Ability to use systems and equipment including personal computer, scanner, copier, calculator, reservation & property management system, and other software/machinery as required
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and to effectively supervise others

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of local markets and local business contacts
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience in restaurant opening, operation, and management
  • Experience in spa operation and management

  • Must be physically able to regularly inspect all areas of interior and exterior of facility

PROPOSED HOURS:

40+ Hours per Week, Suggested Thursday – Monday (Select Holidays Required)
On-Call as needed after hours, on weekends, and holidays
